I Felt like a Fraud (yoga teacher confession)

business mindset yoga Apr 15, 2026

Hey sweet souls!

I have a confession.

When I started out teaching yoga-asana, I felt like a fraud.

I LOVED yoga, and I thought it was literally the most amazing thing in the world (I still think this!). But I always felt reservations about who I was and my ability to teach.

Instead of focusing on how I could help people with the knowledge and skills I had learned, I was caught up in worrying about what others would think of me. I knew I wasn’t the best, and never would be.

I knew that I had a LOT more to learn, and that I was young (21 at the time) - so why would anyone want to practice with me?

This mindset was showing up in everything I did, including my classes. As excited as I was to teach, this self doubt was seeping through into my energy and attitude.

And that’s what I wanted to talk to you about today – our false ego making us falter on our mission, and how to over come it.

When I started teaching, I was only 21. I was fresh out of recovery and felt pretty raw. But I knew in my heart of hearts, I wanted to help inspire and support others with health and healing.

I confessed my overwhelming self-doubts to my yoga mentor and she said this:

“You’ll never know everything. But you know more than the people who are coming to class. And that’s enough to help them. Just try to focus on caring for them and making them feel comfortable.”

In other words – stop thinking about yourself! Haha

Which brings me to this message today:

If you have something to give, don’t let anything hold you back from giving.
Start before you’re ready.
Focus on what you can do; not on what you can’t.

Open your eyes.
Open your heart.
And look around at the suffering in the world.
Let it motivate you to do something – to step outside your comfort zone and help others, even if it means getting a little uncomfortable yourself.
There is always someone, and some way, you can help.
Do what you can, with what you have.

Sometimes our choice ends up being discomfort from avoiding action and growth; or discomfort from pursuing action and growth! Either way it's uncomfortable. Although getting uncomfortable to grow and serve is a much better outcome!
... Which one will you choose?

I hope this message inspires you to put serving in the forefront of your mind. I would love to hear more about what you do and what your mission is - no matter how big or small. Shoot me an email and let me know what you're up to. Let's inspire each other <3

Well wishes,
