Ayurveda for Beginners

Getting started with Ayurveda is sometimes confusing, but can be more simple than you think.

For many of us, the following is true:

Food combinations can be hard to remember.


Identifying tastes can be really tricky (if your palette has been predominantly exposed to sweet, salty, and artificial flavours, you might find it hard to differentiate or identify the 6 tastes).

’Eating for your Dosha’ can be particularly troublesome if you’ve mis-diagnosed which dosha you should be dealing with.

And what is especially true is that: the impact of a dosha specific diet is going to be very limited if you’re a night owl, not exercising, eating at random times throughout the day, and not doing anything to manage your stress.


Food alone has the capacity to be medicinal – this is true. But it’s only going to be as good as your ability to digest it. And your agni/digestive capacity is largely supported by Dinacharya – lifestyle habit regulation and behaving in harmony with Nature’s design.

If you’re getting started with Ayurveda, try adding these simple shifts in behaviour, and patiently observe how it supports your wellbeing:



⏰ Align your activities with the Rhythms of Nature (Dinacharya)

🛌 Be in bed and asleep by no later than 11pm

☀️ Rise before or with the sun

🍲 Eat at morning, noon, and early evening

🧘🏻‍♀️ Do something daily to manage your stress (Mantra Meditation is my personal favourite)

They look so simple, but trust me – they are easy to do, yet easy not to do!
